Third C-section
By Joanna
After the birth of two wonderful boys, we decided to try for a third child. I wanted a girl, but knew there was no real way to guarantee anything, and my two boys are wonderful, so I didn't mind another one either.
At the checkups, I asked the sex, and was told maybe a girl, not 100 percent sure. Then later on another doctor told me maybe a boy. I was really keen to find out for sure, but we never did till the day.
Well, 9 months later, I was due to give birth. The first was born by emergency Cesarean section due to his head being stuck, and the second was by planned C-section because I didn't want to repeat the traumatic birth of the first. So I planned on having a third C-section with the same surgeon as I had for the second, because he was very good.
The second birth went extremely well, and for some reason I was scared that it just couldn't be that easy again, so I was much more nervous. However, Baby had to come out, so there I was in the clinic waiting. I didn't sleep at all.
Morning came and the nurses came up to bring me down to the delivery rooms. My husband was there too. Then I had to get the epidural and infusion, which seemed to go in slow motion. I felt so nervous. I couldn't stop shaking, and my poor squeamish husband had his hands squeezed blue!
However, it was all finally in place, but then we had to wait. The anesthetic lady was so nice; she and the midwife kept on talking and telling jokes, but I still couldn't stop shaking. Finally after a pretty long wait, we went to the operating room. This was a strange place; it seemed like a big kitchen to me, all stainless steel and burning smells. I didn't even recognize my husband in his operating room gear.
My blood pressure suddenly dropped, and I felt really sick, but they stopped that with some extra medicine I think.
Finally, two hours late, I was wheeled in and the operation could begin. I was still really shaky, but it went so fast this time. In only five minutes the baby was out. I heard the crying and asked, "So what did we get then?" A girl, they said. We started crying, we were so happy and blessed by God to have completed our family. She was 7.7 pounds and 55 centimeters long and perfectly healthy.
The rest of the operation went by fast. I could feel exactly what they were doing, but it didn't hurt; that was quite strange.
Recovery was the easiest by far. Forty-eight hours afterwards, the pain was almost gone, and walking around helped even more. But I think we are done. Three is plenty to deal with a wonderful blessing.
