Didn't Make It
That morning, I felt the contractions coming on. I got dressed and went to the hospital knowing for sure that they would keep me in, but the contractions wanted to play games with the doctor, so I was there for about an hour and they were no longer coming 10 minutes apart but 25, 15, 30. The doctor said since the contractions were not "consistent." I should go home and come back when they were consistent. So I did as told.

Not even three hours later, I felt them coming on, but in an effort not to be sent home again I bared the pain when they hit and just rocked while standing up and leaning on the bathroom sink. (Little did I know that all that rocking was causing a gravitational shift.)

Finally I told my husband we should go back. We got in the car (I live 25 minutes from the hospital). This was the ride from hell. He was doing more than the speed limits and breaking a lot of lights while I was yelling at him to open the windows because I needed air and the first push came.

Finally we pulled up to the hospital and just as we did the second push came and the head was between my legs. There was an orderly standing outside of the hospital. I grabbed hold of his hand and asked him to help me get up to Labor and Delivery, but we didn't make it. While in the elevator on a stretcher, I felt the urge to push and out came the baby right into the leg of my pants (good thing they were stretch material).

We finally got up to the triage area and the orderly was telling the staff that I just delivered a baby. Everyone was looking for this baby (who is now crying). So finally I blurted out, "It's in my pants." Everything seemed like a blur after that. The staff were rushing around trying to handle things. My doctor came out and he said to me, "I told you to come back, but not like this."

So they whisked the baby away. My doctor examined me and he was amazed that I didn't tear or anything. So he left and I went to take a shower. When I got out the nurses were yelling at me because I went in there unattended and so soon after giving birth (but honestly I felt fine).

It was definitely an experience. You know girls: They have to make a grand entrance and she certainly did!

Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world. Let others know what your experience was like.
