Our beautiful baby girl was born on January 5, 2004. She was unplanned but very loved. This is our second child after having Matthew in 2002 weighing 7.4. We were shocked to find out by ultrasound one week before my due date that this one was going to weigh about 10 pounds.
I was scared because I was told I have a small pelvis opening and would probably need a Cesarean section. I did not want a C-section. I was determined to have her naturally.
I was induced with Pitocin and Cervidil on January 4. After 22 hours of labor we discovered she was stuck on my pelvic bone and I had to have a C-section anyway. I was so upset because I did not want surgery. At 5:48 Reagan Lyn was born weighing 9.15 pounds, one point from 10.
What I'm about to tell you next is why I did not want a C-section. My third day home from the hospital I was brushing my teeth and felt something running down my legs. It was blood and drainage in large amounts. I noticed staples missing on each side of my incision and gaping holes. I called my doctor and went in. Since that day I have had to have my incision packed twice a day every day.
I then ended up getting a bacteria from taking too many antibiotics that I thought was going to kill me. I survived. It has been eight weeks so far. I have three feet (yes, FEET) of strips in the left side and two inches in the right. I am hoping Thursday my doctor will say no more packing for the right side. He says about three more weeks on the left.
We want more children, but I will definitely eat better and exercise (hopefully to avoid a big baby) more, and I hope I will not need another C-section. After having both a vaginal and C-section delivery, I will always pick the vaginal way first. But she was worth all of the pain and trouble I have been going through. I hope to get better soon and to avoid this in the future.
