My husband had gotten a ride to work that day. I was to pick him up when he got off. I called him about 7 a.m. and told him he would have to come home. I told him to wait, and I would see how things were going. I said that I would maybe go to my appointment that day at 9 a.m.
I called my mom. She came over at about 7:30 a.m. to take care of my kids. I was on the floor leaning on the couch when she got there. I was telling her that I could not believe how hard these contractions were.
I called my hubby and said to get a ride home NOW. It was 7:40 a.m. I got in the shower. It felt good, but I was still in lots of pain. After I got out I was hurting BADLY. My mom started timing contractions. She said, They are lasting a minute, one minute apart! She was really freaking out. She was telling my kids to rub my back.
I called hubby on his cell. He was on his way. I moaned at him, Get here now. The baby is not going to wait! He got home at about 8:15 a.m. I was shaking my dresser trying to get some shorts on. He walked me to the vehicle and buckled all the kids in.
We started on our way. I was telling him, The baby is wanting to come out now! He was trying to comfort me and drive fast but carefully. My daughter was really freaking out. She was telling me to be quiet and stop making those noises. I felt bad and told her, I'm sorry, but I'm hurting.
As we turned the corner to the street of the hospital I was trying not to push. My bag of waters seemed like it was leaking, and I was panting like crazy.
When we got to the entrance to the maternity ward, my hubby ran to get someone. While he did that my water broke. They brought the wheelchair. My hubby had to stay at the vehicle with the kids and wait for my mom who was following us. She got left behind a bit.
I went up to a room. They were telling me not to push. I tried to get on the bed. A nurse just pulled off my pants and asked who my doctor was. He was on his way. They tried hooking an IV up (not happening) and tried to get the baby's heartbeat on the monitor. They finally got one trace, and I was pushing him out.
The (just in case) doctor was in the room and ran over to catch the baby. She didn't even have an apron on or gloves or anything! She delivered the baby at 9:02 a.m., and my hubby walked in at like 9:02 and 30 seconds! He was freaked out. I just kept telling him I was sorry, that I couldn't wait. He got to cut the cord.
My doctor then walked in and said, Oh, I guess you didn't want to wait for me. He delivered the placenta and did all the other after birth stuff.
Hubby walked out to tell my mom and kids. They got to come see the baby just minutes after he was born. That birth was a lot more exciting and faster than I ever imagined. What an awesome experience, birth.
