At age 19 I had my first daughter naturally, though with episiotomy, after a 12 hour labor. She broke her collar bone being born due to narrow pelvis. 4 years ago (after 7 year age span), I looked forward to perfect midwife-assisted birth. Hannah was posterior then transverse and ended with a C-section. My current midwife was concerned about narrow pelvis and possible larger baby and we agreed to try Cytotec to induce at 38 weeks. I agreed -- I REALLY wanted VBAC. Went in Thursday night for the first Cytotec suppository at 9:00 p.m.. Worst part was laying there unable to get up to pee for 2 hours! Repeated procedure at 3:00 a.m.. I began feeling mild contractions, so they gave me a sleeping pill to help me sleep. About 6:00 a.m., I was uncomfortable. The nurse checked and I was still at 2 centimeters! I was so upset and scared I'd end up with another C-section! I was mad and hurting.
At 7:00 a.m. I called my mom and told her contractions were stronger but nothing was really happening. Almost immediately the pain was great and my dear husband rubbed my back as I leaned over the sink. Midwife came to check and said I was 2 to 3 centimeters and I cried, Then I need an epidural! My water broke while waiting. He put it in around 9:00 a.m., the pain was intense and didn't stop. They told me to roll over on my left side, I began to feel the pushing urge. I asked them to check me and they said I was 5 or 6 centimeters. The urge to push was so great that I told them I was going to have a BM! My husband was rubbing my forehead and I kept taking his hand and chewing on his knuckles trying hard not to push.
At 9:45 a.m. I told them, I am either going to HAVE to push or have a bowel movement. Everything went crazy. The baby could be seen crowning!! They called my midwife and I hear the intercom say OB to labor and delivery, STAT. A doctor came and though I was comfy on my side he said, Turn over. Let go of your husband. Angrily, I yelled, Who are YOU?? Luckily my midwife arrived and after three pushes, my precious Becca was born.
She wasn't breathing and they rubbed and pinched her. Her apgar was 2 then 8. Scary. But she's beautiful. Her birth was nothing short of amazing, and I would use Cytotec in a heart beat if I ever have another! Feel free to e-mail me At Dachinvb@juno.com!! God Bless!
