My Birth Story

This was my first birth and let's say it was painful but worth it. I am pregnant again and can't wait to have another homebirth!

Now here's my story. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for four months when I finally found out I was pregnant. It was very easy up until the day I went into labor. My husband and I knew that we wanted a homebirth and found the best midwives ever. They treated me like a princess and I loved it. I also loved how no one lied about the pain.

I was at home cooking dinner when I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I called my midwife and she told me that it was probably just Braxton Hicks. I continued on cooking dinner when the next pain was worse; within seconds I heard a splash and I looked on the ground and there was water all over the floor. My water had broken!

I called my midwife again and she told me that she would be there ASAP. I hung up and called my husband and he said that he would leave work immediately.

By the time my midwife got there I was in horrible pain. She told me to lie down so she could see how far I was and she said that I was 6 centimeters dilated.

I was happy that things were moving along so quickly. My husband showed up minutes later and was already rubbing my back. He was so supportive and was there to help in anyway he could.

Within 30 minutes my contractions were coming along even faster. I looked at Laurie (my midwife) and gave her the look to check me again. She checked me again and said that I was 10 centimeters and that it was time to push.

Everyone was great and helped me in every way. I started to push and, oh my God, did it hurt. I pushed for the next 20 minutes and nothing was happening. Laurie took her finger and put it inside me and told me to try and push that way. I tried but it hurt too much. I wanted to cry that it hurt so bad. Laurie told me that she was going to need me to try to get on all fours and see if anything would happen. I flipped over and got on all fours and continued pushing but again nothing was happening.

Finally we got into the birthing chair and things were moving along. Let's just say that the crowning was the hardest part.

Within minutes of getting into the birthing chair my baby was born. She was 7 pounds, 8 ounces and 20 inches long. She was beautiful and well worth it.

Like I said before I am pregnant again and am hoping to have a water birth this time. I will share that story later. Thanks for reading this!
