Born at 25 Weeks, 3 Days

I was only 17 when I conceived. I found out a week after my 18th birthday. I was kind of excited, because a baby is a great gift, but things were hard. I had just moved out of my house, and was not speaking to my parents at the time. It was a hard thing because usually it's a good time for mother and daughter to bond.

Other than feeling depressed about that, things went by very fast.

I had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks. The tech wouldn't show us the screen. All I could think is, "Is there something wrong?" She turned to us after about five minutes and asked, "How much room do you guys have?" We replied, "Not too much, why do you ask?" She simply told us, "Because there's twins in there."

I have never been so shocked in my life. Not too long after we got used to that idea. I started speaking to my family again. I couldn't have been more than 4 months along. Things were going great.

Then one day, around 22 weeks, my boyfriend and I decided to re-paint. That night I woke up at 3 in the morning or so, only to find my water had broken.

I went down to the hospital, and they confirmed it. I have never been so scared. They transferred me to a hospital that was more than two hours away from my house, but I needed to be some where there was a NICU.

I was there for about 19 days, when at about 1 in the morning or so, I started to get contractions. They brought me over to the labor and delivery side of the maternity floor and watched me for an hour. Because my water was broken (on twin A) I had a great risk of infection. While I was in labor and delivery they did blood work and it came back positive for a sky high amount of white blood cells. I had an infection.

It was then that they told me they were going to prep an OR and I would be having a Cesarean section within the next two hours. I called my family, and everyone came up.

I was so scared because I went in there alone. I was having the worst contractions one can imagine. I got my spinal (all by myself) and they started the procedure when my boyfriend walked in.

It took about 40 minutes start to finish. Baby A came out first, and he didn't cry. They whisked him away so fast, I didn't have a chance to see him. Baby B came out three minutes later. He let out this cry that sounded like a baby cat meow. I got to see him for a few seconds before they brought him to the NICU.

The following day, Baby A passed. His water had been broken so long, that he became septic.

Baby B now, though, is 2 years old and going strong. He is amazing, and I believe his twin was his guardian angel.

Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world. Let others know what your experience was like.
