Hard Pregnancy with Twins

I found out I was pregnant at 9 weeks. I had been sick for a week and a half with what I thought was the flu. I was sure I wasn't pregnant but I bought a test just to try. Sure enough it was positive.

At 18 weeks we found out we were having twins and decided to have their genders be a secret! I'm an eighth grade gym teacher, and my due date was August 17, so I would have to finish the school year out 6 months pregnant.

I continued running around outside and playing sports with the kids. One day in mid-May I started getting really bad cramps. They were every 15 to 20 minutes apart, and lasted about two minutes. Every time it happened I would kneel down and squeeze another gym teacher, Ashley's, arm. Being stubborn, I refused to leave since it was the last period of the day and decided to just go to the doctor after track practice (I coach track).

I went to the doctor and was dilated to 3. I was sent to the hospital and they slowed the labor and put me on bed rest. I was also diagnosed with mild toxemia.

The last day of school came a month later. My doctor told me I could go since it was a half day, but I had to sit then go right back to bed rest. After an hour in the hot gym, I felt super dizzy and exhausted so I went back to my doctor. My blood sugar was dangerously low and my blood pressure was skyrocketing! They decided I would be in the hospital until the twins came.

After a few weeks, I had some bleeding and the doctors discovered my uterus had ruptured and the babies' heart rates were dropping. It was July 9, about a month before I was due.

The doctors immediately did an emergency Cesarean section and delivered Meghan-Marie rose Walters at 9:06 p.m., and Kalee Adelynn at 9:08. They spent their first week in the NICU, but recovered well!

Today, Meghan-Marie and Kalee are perfectly healthy 3-year-olds and will definitely be our only children. Thanks for reading our story!
