Important Decisions

Hi, my name is Amelia. I was just 20 when I decided to marry my lifelong friend. We had known each other for more than 15 years and we had always gotten along. My husband's younger sister is still my best friend since childhood and his parents are as loving as mine.

But along with the story...

May 15, 2001: I got married at 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning and we were due to go on our honey moon the next day. Here we come, Maui!

May 17: We had been in Maui now for one whole day. We decided that it would be a good time to get to know each other physically because we were both virgins.

After a wonderful three-week vacation in Kihei Maui we decided to look at some homes and real estate. We found a small four-bedroom bungalow in Kihei that was in a very quiet neighborhood. By the time we were all moved in and we had settled I found out that I was 11 weeks pregnant with quadruplets (which I didn't know at the time). Both my husband and I were extremely happy, very nervous, but happy. I called my parents and in-laws and told the big news. Everyone was happy.

February 2, 2002: I was due any day and was very nervous. I had recently (the day before) had a false labor attack. Very scary! What happened was I was walking in the mall with my mother-in-law and I felt a dull rush of pain up my lower spine and around my abdomen. I dropped my new shoes and sat on a bench and started to cry. Afterwards, I was rushed to the hospital and it was pronounced false. I relaxed a little and lay in front of the TV waiting my two little girls and two little boys to arrive.

February 5, 2002: Oww! I was on the delivery bed when one of my biggest contractions hit. I squeezed my husband's hand as he stroked my hair and pushed as hard as I could. After an hour and a half of pushing what I thought were my whole insides out I was told that a head was emerging almost past my cervix. I was so excited and I was also focusing on not ripping my doctor's head off, who was humming a stupid little lullaby that was supposed to make me feel better! I told my mother to please look and see if my baby was OK. She did and I was reassured just as I pushed the rest of her body out. One down, three to go, my husband told me. I was very tired and was almost exhausted. I started to become weaker and weaker. Also because I was hypoglycemic I was getting very light headed.

Long story short, I had four beautiful babies. One of my boys had a small legion that was removed immediately from his arm. Everything went beautifully and I was sent home, now being a part of a wonderful family of six. Because I met my husband when I went to Africa I decided that we should have some African origin in some of the names. So some of these names are African: Baby 1, Girl name: Mia Riley Namuab; Baby 2, Boy name: Dominic James Namuab; Baby 3, Boy name: Jaedzia Seth Namuab; Baby 4, Girl name: Akia Zemetta Namuab.

All in all I had a wonderful experience and I hope that the women who read this will as well.

Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world. Let others know what your experience was like.
