My due date was scheduled for March 12, 2004. I continued to go to my appointments weekly and my doctor allowed me to go three weeks overdue before he decided to induce me. I felt as though he was trying to punish me for having a baby. My husband was getting frustrated because I would come home and cry every night because I was tired of being pregnant.
My doctor had me meet him at the hospital at noon. They started me on Pitocin and it wasn't causing any changes in my body. They took me off of that after being on it for eight hours. They then decided to give me Cervidil, to help soften and dilate my cervix. They also fed me and told me to get some rest because they weren't expecting me to deliver my baby until the next day in the afternoon. At this point it was about 11 p.m.
A few hours passed and I told my husband that my pains were too strong and I couldn't sleep. I had really become frustrated because I had been up all day. At about 3 a.m. the nurse came in and told me to get some rest. She removed the Cervidil and told me that she would see me later in the morning. Those idiots kept telling me that my baby wouldn't be born until sometime in the afternoon.
One hour later I began to vomit the food and drinks that they had provided me earlier in the evening. I called the nurse. She put me back to bed and left. I called her again and told her I wanted to go to the restroom. She came in, checked me and found that I was 7 centimeters dilated. She went to get me a local anesthetic. When she came back, no more than three minutes later, I had dilated to 10 centimeters and they were ready for me to push.
My doctor almost didn't make it to the delivery. I gave birth to an 8-pound, 6-ounce baby girl who was 19 1/2 inches long, at 4:18 a.m. April 1, 2004, three weeks from my original due date.
My experience was so frustrating that when I found out that I was pregnant with my second child I changed my doctor and my hospital. I am now one day away from my due date and my doctor has already told me that if the baby does not come on its own within the next week we would take the necessary steps for induction. He promised not to make me suffer three weeks past my original due date.
