Heaven-Sent

After losing our first child to something no doctor had even heard of, having another baby was the farthest thing from my mind. Somehow, Hannah's hands grew into her umbilical cord while she was developing. She was stillborn at 26 weeks.

Over a year and a half later, my husband convinced me it was time to start trying again. I soon became pregnant. I just knew this baby was going to be another girl. I guess in my mind I wanted what I never got to care for. To our surprise, we were having a boy. I stayed paranoid throughout my pregnancy and was closely monitored. I had a total of eight ultrasounds. What was so unique was during the ultrasound at 18 weeks to determine the baby's sex, the very first picture that came up on the screen was both the baby's hands held up by its head as if to say, Look mommy, I'm okay! I wasn't nearly as sick this time as with my first pregnancy, but I did develop kidney stones. OUCH! I also tested positive for the Group Beta Strep.

I went into labor at 39 1/2 weeks. They started the antibiotics due to the Group B Strep, so it would not transfer to the baby. I then had an epidural. They went over all of the side effects with me and said they hadn't had a patient to experience any of them, but ... I was the first.

As a reaction to the epidural, I went into shock. My blood pressure dropped to 72 over 36. All I remember was that I was freezing. They gave me a shock treatment through my IV, which gradually brought my blood pressure up. I finally stabilized, but then began to develop a fever which would eventually get to over 105 degrees. With all of this going on, if that weren't enough, the baby was turned up instead of facing down.

I pushed for almost two hours, thus, increasing my fever. Finally, I was so hot inside, the baby went into fetaltacacardia. I almost had an emergency Cesarean Section, but managed to pull all of my strength together and get the baby out. Finally, after all of that, Peyton was born beautiful and healthy weighing 9 pounds, 3 ounces.

Today he is a little over 4 months old and is absolutely precious and such good-natured. He is truly Heaven sent with a personal angel forever watching over him -- his sister Hannah.
