This is a birth story about preemies.
From what I know the mom went into labor about seven weeks early. Since the nearest hospital was 15 minutes away without any traffic (and keep in mind the baby was born in January so the roads were icy) they didn't want Baby born yet. Dad was out of town so they gave Mom some drugs and sent her home.
About a week later the contractions started. Dad was at home again so that was good. They didn't want Mom to have Baby quite yet (by then Baby was 34 weeks) but they did a quick test to see if Baby's lungs were fully developed. If they weren't fully developed Mom would have to wait some more to have Baby because the hospital she was at didn't have a NICU. But, thankfully, Baby's lungs were developed.
At 5:26 p.m. on January 29, 1996, into the world came a little girl, weighing 5 pounds, 6 ounces. They named her Cameron Mae Klein.
That little girl was me and I was supposed to be born in mid-March. My parents were worried I was going to be born on my grandma's birthday. Preemies are very sensitive to people touching their feet because their heels are constantly used as pincushions for drawing blood. Even today at 11 years old, I still don't like people touching my feet. I have always been impatient. I was very impatient to come into the world! I am proud to be a preemie and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world.
