April 24, 2006, I had a lot of bleeding so I went to the hospital. My water broke at the hospital so I was life flighted to a hospital with a NICU. Upon my arrival, not more than an hour passed and I was being rushed down the hall for an emergency Cesarean section due to placenta abruption.
Within no time, little Hannah was born weighing only 1 pound, 10 ounces and 12 1/4 inches long. She was breathing on her own at first, but was moved quickly to a jet oscillator. She also had her right lung collapse two times. After a month in the NICU, we also discovered that she had a bilateral grade 3 IVH (brain bleed). Hannah had her ups and downs with the oxygen. She eventually moved to a nasal canula.
About 34 weeks of age, she started bottle feeding. She did really well with that. I fed her breast milk until 5 months of age. After spending 112 days in the NICU, we finally got to go home on August 14 with a monitor and .1 oxygen and medications for reflux and Lasix.
It is now November and she is doing exceptionally well. She is only on vitamins and two medications for reflux. She is developmentally 1 month ahead of her corrected age. She is smiling, rolling over and as happy as can be. The physical therapist is really amazed at how well she is doing. She is truly a little miracle!
