My Precious Son Born at 26 Weeks

My little man was born September 15 of this year. He was born at only 26 weeks. I had been on bed rest since August of this year but complications kept coming. After being admitted to the hospital on September 10, I was given steroids to help his lungs mature faster and was put on some IV medications to prevent any infections and also to help prevent my labor from progressing.

This was helpful for only a few days as I recall waking up to some cramping and what I believe was my water leaking. I called the nurse and they rushed me to labor and delivery. My son was born at 12:28 a.m. weighing only 1 pound, 14 ounces. He was 14 inches long.

I panicked but once I heard his little cry it was reassuring for the time being. He was given oxygen and rushed to the NICU. At first he was on a CPAP but within a week he was able to be put on regular oxygen. So far he has had only mild complications such as Bradys and jaundice.

Now he is over a month old and I am very proud of his progress. He now weighs 3 pounds, 4 ounces at 6 weeks old, 32 weeks gestation. He is also off oxygen and will soon eat from a bottle. I look forward to bringing him home around his original due date, December 22, 2008. He will be my little Christmas angel!

For those of you who are going through a similar situation, my advice is to keep your faith strong and always have hope no matter how hard it gets!

Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world. Let others know what your experience was like.
