William Born at 28 Weeks

I found out I was pregnant when I was 9 weeks along. My due date was supposed to be June 10, 2009. Every time I had an ultrasound the baby was moving around like crazy and the doctor said everything looked very good and he was very healthy.

When I went to my last appointment I was told everything looked good and then I would start going for weekly visits to the doctor. But two days after I went to the doctor I started having contractions. I was worried because I had a miscarriage before and I knew how it felt when something was wrong. So my husband and I went to the hospital and got checked out. I was told the contractions were two to 5 minutes apart and they gave me medication to stop them. I spent three days in the hospital and they sent me home and told me to come back if I was having contractions again.

When I went home I went to bed. Four hours later I woke up covered in blood and some of the fluid for the baby, so we rushed to the hospital. I was told I was 4 centimeters dilated and I was starting to have a rupture of the placenta and it was best for the baby's health and my health that they stop treating the contractions and reverse the process and have the baby.

I was in labor from 2 a.m. to 12:13 p.m. and he was born at 28 weeks and was crying when he was born, which was the best sound in the world. He was life flighted to one of the best hospitals in Texas and was in the NICU weighing 2 pounds, 3 ounces when he was born.

They said he was doing very well for being premature and was only on a little oxygen and a c pap. A few weeks later he ended up getting two infections, but they cleared up and he had a blood transfusion because he was so small.

Now he is still in the NICU but doing very well, weighing 3 pounds, 14 ounces and is 35 weeks in development now. His only problem is he has sleep apnea and sometimes his heart rate drops, but it's only because he's still growing. And right now he just started taking a bottle a little, and we're taking one day at a time while he gets better.

Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world. Let others know what your experience was like.
