Life-saving C-section

I feel very blessed that my third child arrived safe and sound. My early pregnancy was complicated by continual bleeding due to a subchorionic hematoma in my first trimester. My second trimester was fairly normal and I was very interested in attempting a VBAC birth. My first son was an uncomplicated wonderful vaginal birth. My oldest daughter was a surprise Cesarean section for breech presentation.

I am a nurse and wanted the most natural way to bring my daughter into the world. I took the VBAC class and thought a lot about the possibilities. My OB/GYN was suggesting a VBAC birth. Something in the back of my mind made me feel uneasy, so I reluctantly chose a repeat C-section.

My water broke on a Friday night after several days of on-and-off patterns of contractions. I felt excited yet surprised as my C-section wasn't supposed to happen for three more days.

My husband and I took our time getting to the hospital. When my doctor opened up my abdomen he pointed out to my husband that I had a 7-inch hole in my uterus! My husband could see her face and beautiful black hair. I was counseled not to have any further children and have taken his advice. I am so thankful that I listened to my deep inner voice.

Delaney Elise was born June 8 at 6 pounds,13 ounces, perfect in every way.
