I was 15 weeks pregnant and got hit. I went to the hospital for an overnight stay, due to the accident. They told me everything looked good so I went home the next day, thinking everything was OK.
I went to see my doctor three weeks later to see what I was having. That's when it hit us like a bullet. The ultrasound woman just looked at me and said that she needed to get the doctor but first she would see if she could tell us what the baby was. After 10 minutes of looking she said, "You're having a boy," and went to go get the doctor.
He came in and sat down and looked at the baby and told me that he had no water. He told me that I could give up the baby (killing him) or go on with the pregnancy and just look forward to a very sick baby if I could make it past two weeks with no water.
And I made it past the two weeks of waiting to see what would happen. On December 30, 2008, I went to see the doctor like I did every week after that, and his heart rate went from 160 to 120. They told me that it was OK, but I was scared because it had never been below 158.
I went home and I couldn't sleep all night due to having sharp pains. Due to this being my first I didn't know what labor was like, so I waited to the next morning and told my boyfriend and mother what was going on.
I went back to the doctors and thy said that it was too early to go o the hospital, so I waited two more weeks with the same no sleep and pains, which they said was nothing because I wasn't dilated any.
So on January 13, 2009, at 9 a.m. I went to the doctors to do my diabetes testing because I was not 27 weeks and 4 days. So I drank the soda and went back to get an ultrasound like I did every two weeks at that time. It was bad enough going once a week. Then it got a little better after he said that I only needed to come every two weeks.
So on January 13, I went and got my ultrasound, and the same woman that did all the others did it again. She was doing the measurements and my boyfriend, sister and I were looking for his heartbeat and there was none. They went looking for it. She said it could be the way he was lying. So she put it so we could hear it and there was nothing. And we began to cry.
She said that she was so sorry and she couldn't believe it had happened. All the other staff that knew me came in crying. So she sent us to the hospital to have him.
I really can't remember much after that. I only remember giving birth at 5:48 a.m. on January 14, 2009, to a baby that weighed only 1 pound, 1 ounce and 8 inches long. We all held him from the moment he was born to the min I left at 12 p.m. the same day. We took pictures and other things. We named him after his dad, Javier, so he was named Javier Dominguez-Caudill.
