This is the story of my precious nephew that was taken from us on June 9, 2004. In December 2003 my sister-in-law found out she was pregnant and that everything was going well with the baby. To add to it, in March of the following year, I found out I was going to be a mother too.
Everything was going well until one day my sister-in-law wasn't feeling well. She had gotten dizzy and fell. The doctors thought it might have been an after effect of some medication she was on, but after some tests to see if the baby was doing OK, the tests came back that her little boy had a brain aneurism and an enlarged heart and that if it was not treated soon, it would cause him to go into cardiac arrest and die.
We were all devastated that this had turned up after an absolutely normal pregnancy. Another scare came after the doctors mentioned something about a possibility of the condition being hereditary! Could this happen to both of us?
Caleb was born prematurely on June 8 and his parents made the decision to take him off life support on June 9. We now know that the disease that affected him was called Vein of Galen and there have only been roughly 400 cases reported in the last 70 years.
This little baby was such a blessing to us in the day that he was alive. I just wanted to share this story about a beautiful baby boy that we will see in heaven some day soon!
