Stillbirth Due to True Cord Knot

After undergoing infertility treatment, we were blessed with a successful IVF pregnancy. Soon we found out we were expecting identical twin boys.

I had prenatal care from day one. I had many complications: bleeding during my first trimester, fibroid enlargement and degeneration, hypertension in the third trimester. We survived it all and I was on bed rest for close to five months. I had twice weekly NSTs and on one, they failed to detect a heartbeat on twin A.

I was admitted and went into labor. My doctor wanted me to deliver vaginally but I refused as they did not have a reason for my stillbirth. I had a Cesarean section and they found out that each twin had a cord knot and twin A had become symptomatic from it.

Looking back, he had fallen behind in weight and growth on the last scan, but they could not pinpoint the problem.

My other son was born at 31 weeks and spent eight weeks in the NICU and is at home with BPD and on oxygen. It has been the most challenging time of my life: infertility, complicated pregnancy, stillbirth, NICU baby and now a sick child. But the first time my son smiled, he made up for the whole thing.

Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world. Let others know what your experience was like.
