Twenty-eight Weeks

I am an 18-year-old female. I was pregnant. This was my first pregnancy. I was having a boy. As for being my first child I was so excited, as well as my boyfriend. I had bought all the things a baby needed for when he was born.

But on November 8, 2004, in the early morning, I woke up with really bad stomach pain. I thought that the food I had eaten from the prior night had made me sick. I started to throw up badly. My stomach was rock hard and I did not feel my baby boy kicking. I immediately went to the hospital.

When I arrived the nurses couldn't find his heartbeat, so they called in ultrasound. Once ultrasound arrived they told me that my baby had died. This was a big shock to me because there was nothing wrong with me during the pregnancy. My doctor told me that I had a placenta abruption, and that there was no explanation as to why it happens.

I delivered him on November 9, 2004. He weighed 3 pounds, 2 ounces, and his length was 16 1/2 inches. I was 28 weeks. My due date was January 27, 2005. He was so warm and his eyes were puffy. He looked like my boyfriend. We named him Isaiah. He was so formed and had a lot of hair.

I stood at the hospital for four days, but the good thing about that is that he stayed with me for the whole four days. I had a very good experience, but the fact that he died was the hardest. I slept with him. I would hug him, kiss him and I would tell him how much we loved him.

The day I was discharged from the hospital was the hardest. When I went home I missed him sleeping with me. I missed his body and his good smell. Now all I have are the things I had bought him. But I often visit his grave at the cemetery.
