Nothing prepares you for your first labor experience. You can read and read but no two deliveries are the same.
I wanted a natural birth for my first child.
I went to my OB appointment on a Friday and they said, "Oh, honey, he is not even in your pelvis!"
I lost my plug on Saturday morning a week after my due date. This was finally it.
I went to the hospital to be checked on Sunday morning after having contractions and they said, "Wow, you are 2 centimeters dilated." Yeah.
I went home to rest since I had been up since Friday with anticipation. I couldn't sleep. I labored at home until I couldn't take it anymore.
I went to labor and delivery and I was almost 7 centimeters! I then decided on an epidural. I couldn't continue without some help. The back labor was excruciating. After they broke my water and noticed that it was meconium stained I pushed for hours. After two epidurals I still was not numb on one side. I guess some people just can't get numb.
My baby started to go into distress. They decided on an emergency Cesarean section. As my husband got in scrubs and I went to the OR, they decided I would not numb. So I had to have a general and my husband could not be present.
My son was born 7 pounds, 12 ounces and although he was covered in poo all over and even in his ears he didn't breathe it in. Thank you, Lord! He was healthy and I was in recovery.
He is now 16 months old and healthy. I am expecting any day now and am trying for a VBAC. We will see what happens.
Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world.
