C-section Not Wanted

On August 9,1999, I was put in the hospital to be induced the next day at 4 a.m. We were so excited that some time the next day we were going to have a baby girl.

They came in and induced me. Everything was great. We were thinking in a few hours we were going to see our daughter for the first time.

At 8:30 a.m. my doctor came in and broke my water. "Any hour now she'll be here," I thought again. About an hour later I started having contractions. My family and nurses kept asking if I wanted the epidural. I said no, it's going to be natural.

So finally at 6 p.m. I started pushing and pushing and pushing. I pushed for four long hours. My daughter was looking up instead of looking down, which is the usual position. I got down to my daughter's top lip out. One more good push and halfway to go and she'd be here. They tried clamps, forceps and she wouldn't budge.

Finally we went in the OR and they were going to try suction cups but by the time my doctor turned around and I screamed louder than I ever did, my daughter moved back up inside me. And yes, I felt every bit. That's when I wished I had the epidural. It hurt worse her moving back up in me than the coming out.

My doctor stood up and told me he had to do an emergency Cesarean section. I cried because I didn't want that. But at 10:11 p.m. Chelsea Madison was finally here. She had bright red hair and her daddy's blue eyes and all.

Later the next day I found out that the C-section saved my life because I started to hemorrhage before he sewed me back up and that if it weren't for the C-section he might not have gotten to the hemorrhaging in time.
