First off, I have to admit to probably reading every single story on here at the time and scaring myself half to death.
My pregnancy was not planned; however, I wouldn't change it for the world.
August 6, 2007
I was three days late and had gained eight pounds in four days (not good). The doctor wanted to see me ASAP. I went in. "Nope, you still are at 1 centimeter dilated," the doctor said. Then all of a sudden she said, " Oops, your water just broke. Head over to the hospital now!"
My boyfriend, who worked nights, was at home asleep and my mom was not answering her phone. There was no way I was going through this alone. Leaking all the way, I drove to my mom's, woke her up and called my co-worker and she went and woke Will up.
With all of us sitting in the hospital room at 10:15 a.m., nothing was happening except my blood pressure was seriously high. Because I was Group B Strep positive, on went the antibiotics and – without telling me – the Pitocin. The pain was awful. I was 2 centimeters dilated and then they said I could take a bath. Whew. I dilated to 4 in 30 minutes in the bathtub.
Because of my blood pressure I couldn't walk around and now they wanted to put an internal monitor in (which kept slipping off).
After being in labor for seven hours her heart rate dropped low and they gave me a shot to stop the contractions, which made me shiver uncontrollably. The said, "You may need a C-section." Then my boyfriend argued with them. He knew I wanted a natural delivery.
So on with the spinal and in the OR I went. Within 30 minutes I was back in my room with so many people around me. When I first went into the OR I was terrified. There were the white walls. And I had to go in first and shortly after (felt like eternity) Will and my mom followed. I ended up puking all over myself. The anesthesiologist was amazing and helped me so much.
My estimated 8+ pounds baby came out. Kaedence PearlAnn was 5 pounds, 15 ounces, 19 inches long and as perfect and healthy as can be.
My recovery was hard. I had mastitis three times and was back in the ER twice.
So if I can give you any advice, know this:
You can plan, plan, plan and go to classes (which I did). Labor is going to happen on its own terms and you just have to roll with it and do what's best for both you and your baby.
Good luck, and I am hoping for a VBAC next time.
Your baby's labor and delivery is like no other in the world.
