It was October 18, 2007, when I had my first OB appointment. I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant. The strange thing was that I had been feeling "strange" so I had a blood test done in August to see if I was pregnant and it said no. I kept taking home pregnancy tests because I just didn't feel right, and finally on October 11 I got a positive test, called the doctor and was seen a week later.
I was happy about the pregnancy. We were shopping around for a new car and in the process of buying our first home.
I had some times when I could feel my heart race, so I was seen by a cardiologist. The cardiologist made me wear a heart monitor for two months and could never find a problem to cause the rapid heartbeat. I went on with my pregnancy and on my brother's birthday, January 14, we found out we were having a girl.
At one of my last appointments my OB told me that she wanted to be the one to deliver me, so she said she wanted to induce me on the next day she worked. It was four days before my due date.
I had a few things that I wanted to get before Kennedy came, so I went with my mother-in-law and father-in-law to the mall. We were out late and I didn't bother to tell them that I had been having little contractions all day.
When I got home my husband was watching a movie and I decided to cuddle up on the couch with him and let him finish the movie. His movie didn't go off until 2 a.m. When I stood up I could tell I really was in labor and told him to go to sleep and I would wake him to take me to the hospital. I waited five hours and then told him I wanted to go.
My labor never did hurt, but the doctor said I was having good contractions and that I would have my baby sometime that day. I labored for seven minutes shy of 20 hours and then they took me for a Cesarean section. The epidural didn't work so I felt them cut me and man, did that hurt! My little girl, Kennedy, was born at 8:53 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2008. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 21 inches.
She is almost 16 months now and is a good little girl with a pretty smile.
