VBAC Only 11 Months After My First Baby

My story starts with a lot of denial. I was in complete and total denial for a while simply because I was scared at the thought of being pregnant again so soon after a Cesarean section. I took a home pregnancy test and it came back positive within seconds. I woke up my husband and told him. His reply was, "I know." Then he rolled over and went back to sleep.

That was not exactly the reaction I was hoping for and I let him know it. He was positive it was a girl and I wasn't so sure. I thought for sure we were going to have another boy. We went in for the ultrasound and it was a girl. I heard "I told you so" from my hubby for months after she was born.

Anyway, on to the birth.

I had false labor for two weeks and it was driving me crazy. Then I got PUPPS (pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy). That was fun. My husband had to hold onto my hands with all of his strength because I wouldn't stop scratching until I would be bleeding. He would get really frustrated with me for this, but I couldn't help it. I remember crying because after all the itching I'd have scabs everywhere. The only place they didn't have an effect on was my face and neck.

Anyway, on April 28, I had a doctor's appointment for 10 in the morning. When I woke up that morning, my son wanted my attention and a bottle so I put him in bed with my husband and got him a bottle. When I came back I gave him the bottle and decided to get back in bed. This wasn't such a great idea. After my son finished his bottle he decided that he wanted to play, and being 11 months old, the first thing he did was kick my side in order to roll over and get up.

My hubby decided to play with him so I could get some more sleep. I tried to get comfortable but it was no use. I went to the bathroom and then to the kitchen to get a drink of water. On my way back to the bedroom, I had a pretty good contraction and my husband noticed right away. I had wanted to labor at home but my husband would have none of it. I have never seen a big man like my husband get up so fast in my entire life.

He put Nathan on the floor and got dressed within three minutes. He got Nathan into his car seat, grabbed Nathan's bag and was out the door before I even really had a chance to get dressed. He came back inside and wouldn't even give me time to eat anything. He was bound and determined that I was not having the baby in the truck.

We had a 45-minute drive to the hospital and he was ready to go. I reminded him to get the car seat and my bag and we were off. We dropped off Nathan and stopped at a convenience store for coffee and a cookie for me. I was starved. I ate the cookie and timed contractions during the 45-minute drive.

My honey kept asking me if he could speed. I laughed and said no way. We were about 10 minutes away from the hospital and I changed my mind! Hubby happily complied by slamming on the gas. I started laughing when he did that.

We got to hospital and had to park pretty far away from the entrance, so I had a few contractions on the walk to the door. We got in and after all the paperwork and changing into the most disgusting hospital gown known to man, I was checked and found to be 3 centimeters dilated. I labored for about two hours, and then I got my buddy, the epidural. I got a great nap in and so did my honey.

When I woke up I was surprised to see that it was already 4 p.m. My doctor came in and checked me and I was ready to push. I woke up my hubby and at 4:15 p.m. after 13 minutes of pushing, my daughter Nylana Grace was born. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 21 inches long. I never dreamed that it would be that easy.

I had a slight bleeding problem, hemorrhoids and was pretty sore from my seven stitches, but other than that I felt great.

Nylana was a great baby from the beginning. She slept through the night from the time she was 3 months old. I hope you enjoyed my story. God bless all the mommies and mommies-to-be out there!
